In 1872 the "Hauts-Fourneaux de Rodange" was created and after six years a blast furnace and steel producing factory was created in this place. The company possessed iron ore mines in Doihl, Rumelange and Ottange. Ore from the first was transported by means of areal rope, from the other mines transport was by means of railways.

In 1905 the company went together with a Belgian company. In 1973 the company merged with the nearby in Belgium situated company "Société des Hauts Fourneaux ex Aciéries d'Athus" (just on the other side of the Belgian-Luxembourgian border); the name became "Métallurgique et Minière de Rodange-Athus" (MMRA). In 1978 the ARBED-company was to get 25 % of the shares. A year before that year the location in Athus was closed and production was centralized in Rodange. But also in Rodange the blast furnace was closed soon after, only steel construction plant was left. It made its specialty in rails for the railways and crane rails and to other long steel products like steel for concrete. In 1994 the company merged with the plant in Schifflange and the ARES was created (Aciéries Rodange Esch-Schifflange); by then it was part of the ARBED conglomerate, later Arcelor Mittal.
