On 5-7-1882 the "s.a. des Hauts-Fourneaux et Forges de Dudelange" was created. Two years later, in 1884 the factory was built and started working. The railway line from Bettembourg was ready just in time, in december 1883. In 1886 a rolling mill was opened and in later years several other steel construction sites were opened. The factory used the newly invented modern proces (Thomas-Gilchrist) to make steel.

In 1920 the factory made a fusion with others into ARBED. From the blast furnace there was a railway line into the hills where a slack depot was created. This factory owned line was electrified in 1928.

The last blast furnace was closed in november 1984 and demolished in 1986. The steel works were closed some years later. In this time torpedo wagons with liquid iron ran over the public railways from Belval blast furnace to Dudelange.

The last steel factory (Laminoir) was closed in 2005. From then on there was no more goods transport to Dudelange-Usines. The area of the blast furnace and steel works will be redeveloped by the community of Dudelange.
