Diesel loc series 900

Description

In 1956 the board of the CFL ordered 8 locs (the series 850), the same as SNCF BB 63.000. It came in place of an order for 4 more locs of series 600, which did not succeed much in Luxemburg. The French firm Brissonneau & Lotz had built several locs for the French railways SNCF and also for other railway companies. With 1250 locs built it was one of the largest series in Europe.

Soon CFL wanted to order 13 more locs. Because they had a turbo loader, the power could be raised to 925 hp, thus giving the series 900.

All locs were used primarily for shunting purposes, but until 1964 they were also used in line service, as well for passengers as for goods services. After 1964 (build of the loc series 1800) the locs of series 850 and 900 are only used in shunting services.
