Capitel 148: Mechelen - Aarschot

Trackwidth: 1000 mm

In 1902 there was a plan to make a tram line between Mechelen and Aarschot. The local communities did want to be included, but Mechelen and Aarschot did not want to participate. In 1903 the consession was given.

Finance: 1.400.000 francs (state: 700.000, province Brabant: 214.000, province Antwerpen: 181.000, local communities: 305.000)

Between Mechelen and Pasbrug, the line would coincide with the line from Mechelen - Heist op den Berg - Turnhout. That line was laid with track width 1067 mm (like all lines in the province of Antwerpen). Therefore the part Mechelen - Pasbrug was laid with 4 tracks.

After WW2 the NMVB made a new line from Strombeek to Het Voor in Vilvoorde where a new housing district was being made.
