Capitel 64: Turnhout - Mol - Westerlo - Zichem

Trackwidth: 1000 mm

First plans were made in 1892. But several local governements (in the southern part of the line) did not show interest in the line. The northern part (Turnhout-Westerlo) got a positive descision in 1895, just as the part to Westerlo which was accorded in 1896.

In Mol (Donk) there was a quarry where sand was found. To transport it with railway wagons, the part from Mol to Mol Donk was laid with 4 tracks: 1000 mm track width for the tram, and 1435 mm track width for sand transport.

In 1897 it was decided to create the part of the line from Eindhout to Zichem.

Finacnce: 1.974.000 francs (state: 642.000, province Brabant: 39.000, province Antwerpen: 602.000, local communities: 661.000, private persons: 30.000).

In Mol tractors were used for pulling trams with sand wagons
