Capitel 120: Assche - Aalst - Oordegem

Trackwidth: 1000 mm

Assche - Aalst - Oordegem

At first only a line from Assche via Aalst to Oordegem was created. Consession was given in 1898. Some problems resulted in the fact that it lasted a few years before the line could be made.

Finance: 1.410.000 franc (state: 705.000, province Brabant: 123.000, province Oost-Vlaanderen: 229.000, local communities: 353.000).

Brussel - Assche In 1911 there were the first plans to connect the line with Brussel North station. But because of WW1 these plans were carried out only years later. After many disscussions, around 1934, new plans came to connect Assche to the north of Brussel (Gare du Nord). In 1936 this was carried out. From Brussel to Zellik the new line was electrified immediately, from Zellik to Assche the line was run by autorails in the first year, and a year later was also electrified, just as the route from Assche to Aalst. The route from Aalst to Oordegem was never electrified, exploitation was done with autorails.
