Capitel 47: Bruxelles - Petite Espinette - Waterloo

Brussel - Petite-Espinette

The first plans were for a tramline from the Place Rouppe in Brussel to Kleine Hut, with a branch line to the place St.Croix in Ixelles. But the governement of the city of Brussel did not approve a line over the Avenue Louise. So the branch line was not made. In 1888 allowance to create the line was given.

Finance (Brussel - Kleine Hut): 870.000 franc (state: 203.000, province Brabant: 217.000, local communities: 450.000)

Soon came out that the trams from Place Rouppe were overcrowded. The community of St.Gilles objected against this situation, so NMVB decided to make a second departure place, being the Place Loix in St.Gilles. For this, a branch line was created and opened in 1901.

Petite-Espinette - Waterloo

Soon plans came out to extend the line to Waterloo. But the minister of railways objected against this plan, being of competition with the railway line. Several attempts by NMVB were made, and in 1906 allowance was given. The part from Midden Hut to Waterloo was not electrified, but motor trams came here into exploitation.

Finance (Kleine Hut - Waterloo): 650.000 franc (state: 325.000, province Brabant: 162.000, local communities: 163.000).

St.Genesius Rode

In 1905 the community of St.Genesius Rode asked for a branch line from Midden Hut to the railway station.

Finance (Midden Hut - St.Genesius Rode): 560.000 franc (state: 280.000, province Brabant 140.000, local community: 140.000).

to Ukkel Observatorium

In 1911 plans came to make a branch from Ma Campagne to the Observatorium in Ukkel.

Finance (to Ukkel Observatorium): 500.000 franc (state: 250.000, province Brabant: 125.000, local community: 125.000)
