Leopoldsbrug - Bree

There were already plans to create a line from Bree to Neerpelt in 1884. But for that line nothing came through. But already in 1885 a new plan was made, now from Leopoldsburg over Bree to Maaseik. In the first plans it was also named to extend the line from Leopoldsburg to Mechelen over Westerlo, Heist-op-den-Berg and Westerlo. But that plan was not realized. The line Leopoldsburg-Bree was officially accorded in 1887 and opened in 1888.

Finance: 738.000 franc (state: 246.000, province Limburg: 246.000, 212.000 local communities, 34.000 private persons).

Bree - Maaseik

One year later, in 1888, the part from Bree to Maaseik was official accorded; this part was opened in 1890.

Finance: 512.000 franc (state: 171.000, province Limburg: 171.000, 145.000 local communities, 25.000 private persons).
