Capitel 61: Grimbergen - Londerzeel

Trackwidth: 1000 mm

The first plans for a tram line from Brussel to Londerzeel were for a line via Grimbergen (see cap.18). Permissiokn for this line was not given because of competition with the railway line to Londerzeel. Therefore capital 18 was made with al line from Brussel via Grimbergen to Humbeek.

In 1890 a new attempt of the NMVB was made to make a tram line to Londerzeel, with a positive effect. The line should be a branch line from the line to Humbeek, so starting in Grimbergen, running via Meise to Londerzeel. In 1891 the line was approved.

Finance: 820.000 franc (state: 369.000, province Brabant: 205.000, local communities: 213.000, private persons: 33.000)

In 1908 plans were made to connect Gros Tilleul (Heizel) with Meise. Plans lasted some years, and because of WW1 they were not carried out. Shortly after WW1, in 1920, NMVB made a new plan, but several years passed before they were definitive, and then another couple of years passed before only in 1935 the line was made.

To give a possibility to bring normal gauge goods wagons to the terrain of the Heizel, in 1935 a third rail was laid along the line from Londerzeel via Meise to Heizel.
