Capitel 32: Bruxelles - Haecht
Trackwidth: 1000 mm
Ixelles - Schaarbeek
In 1885 already concession was asked for a tram line in the eastern parts of Brussel. Running from Ixelles in the south east over the Rue Eenens in Schaarbeek to the church of St.Mary in Schaarbeek. In the same year
Financing: 1.160.000 franc (state: 290.000, province Brabant: 290.000, communities: 580.000)
Schaarbeek - Haacht
In 1889 the line from Ixelles to Schaarbeek was opened, in 1890 followed the line from Schaarbeek to Haacht. Running company was the chemin de fer Ixelles-Boendaal; in Ixelles there was connection to this line. The part of the line from the depot to the Place St.Croix was only used for services. In the end of 1890 the running of the city part of the line was transferred to the Tramways Bruxellois (city tram of Brussel). In 1902 the part of the line from Schaarbeek to Haacht was transferred to the NMVB, who left running of the line to the CFV (Chemin de Fer Vicinaux)
In 1896 plans to make a connection to the railway station of Schaarbeek were made, for which allowance was given in 1899. But only in 1908 this part was created.
St.Anna - Porte de Schaarbeek
The end of the line in Brussel was situated near the church of St.Anna. The distance to the center of Brussel was too long. In 1933 NMVB decided to lay the end of the line somewhat to the south in St.Jans ter Node. So the line was extended from the church St.Anna to the Porte de Schaarbeek in Brussel.
Haacht - Keerbergen
First plans to make a new line in these surroundings came in 1929. There would be a (electric) tram from Mechelen from Rijmenam to Haacht. Later plans were for the line from Keerbergen to Haacht. There were also plans for a combination of the line Mechelen - Keerbergen - Tremelo - Aarschot with the line Haacht - Werchter - Aarschot, where the line would run Keerbergen-Haacht-Werchter-Tremelo-Aarschot. But because of WW2 nothing of this plan was carried out. Only some years after WW2 the part from Keerbergen to Haacht was made.
Below a print of the timetable of the year 1931.
