In 1886 the NMVB came with a plan for a tram line from Brussel to Dilbeek, Itterbeek and Schepdaal. This plan succeeded and in 1887 the first section was opened.

Financing: 440.000 franc (state: 110.000, province Brabant 110.000, local communities: 160.000, private persons: 60.000)

In 1887 plans were made to extend the line to Pamel, but this was rejected. Also a plan for a line to Eizeringen in first tryal was refused, but in a second asking, the line was approved.

Financing: 192.000 franc (state: 48.000, province Brabant: 48.000, local communities: 50.000, private persons: 46.000)

Plans for extention to Ninove did not be approved at first by the minister of state, because of competition with the railway, but after several attempts in 1898 approval was given.

Financing: 460.000 franc (state: 115.000, province Brabant: 66.000, province Oost-Vlaanderen: 49.000, local communities: 230.000).

In 1908 plans were made to connect the line with the Gare du Nord in Brussel. This section was opened in 1910.
