Halt : St.Gallen Station

Altitude : 669 m
Distance : 0,00 km

Remarks :
Starting point of the line. Although the line has the same track width as the line to Appenzell (today also of the same company Appenzeller Bahn), there is no connexion between the two lines. The main reason for this is the difference in voltage of the overhad lines (the Trogener Bahn 1000 Volt direct current, the Appenzeller Bahn 1500 Volt direct current). There are plans in the near future to make a connextion, so that it will be possible to have direct trains from one to the other line, especially within the town of St.Gallen.

From the start over the station square the line is about 210 single track. In early years this was double track, but because there was a need for space for the bus station, this part has been rebuilt in single track in 2004. More to the east of this peace of single track the line goes further in double track with tracks in the street pavement.

From the starting point at the railway building the line extends in western direction for some 250 meters where there are 3 stabling tracks.

Halt : St.Gallen Marktplatz

Altitude : 667 m
Distance : 0,79 km

Remarks :
Thsi halt is used in cooperation with the trolley busses and diesel busses of the town company St.Galler Bus (city transportation) and the post busses (rural transport).

It is the buisiest halt of the line. There is a large shelter. The halt is long enough for 3 articulated trolley busses, or one bus and a train of the Trogener Bahn.

Halt : St.Gallen Spisertor

Altitude : 671 m
Distance : 1,11 km

Remarks :
The tracks of this halt are situated in the pavement of the street. Passenger have to embark and disembark to the pedestrian areay.

When a train stops, cars have to wait behind the train; it is not possible to overhaul the train.

Halt : St.Gallen Schülerhaus

Altitude : 696 m
Distance : 1,74 km

Remarks :
This is the last halt which is situated in the pavement. Also the last halt of the part of the line that is double tracked. Directly after the halt the line will extend on its own track in single track.

Passenger have to embark and disembark to the (wrong) left side. Between the two tracks there is some small platform where they have to wait. Because of the many trafic and the small platform, many passengers wait normally on the side, and go to the middle of the road only when a train arrives.

Halt : St.Gallen Birnbäumen

Altitude : 727 m
Distance : 2,78 km

Remarks :
This halt has only been created in the end of the 20th century.

The halt is laid in a steep part of the line (7 % grade). The waiting shed is a long building, of which the roof is horizontal. This enforces the feeling of the steep gradient.

Halt : Tivoli

Altitude : 755 m
Distance : 3,29 km

Op dit moment is deze halte niet meer aanwezig.

Remarks :
This halt was available from the beginning of the line, but end 20th century it has been stopped (same time as creation of the nearby halt Birnbäumen??).

Halt : Notkersegg

Altitude : 785 m
Distance : 3,69 km

Remarks :
In 1964 there has been created an extra track of 48 for planned trams which would end on this halt riding from St.Gallen staion to this halt. As far as I know this has never occurred. All trains ride at least from St.Gallen to Speicher, and almost all ran further to Trogen.

Halt : Schwarzer Bären

Altitude : 855 m

Remarks :
This is a halt situated almost halfway the line. In the nowadays timetable up and down running trains will meet each other in this halt.

Halt : Vögelinsegg

Altitude : 940 m
Distance : 7,04 km

Remarks :
Until 1952 the halt was situated about 200 meter further, exactly in the sharp curve. As in 1952 the halt was extended with more length and two tracks, it was situated in the new location as it is today.

Halt : Speicher

Altitude : 924 m
Distance : 8,20 km

Remarks :
Near this halt we can find the repair shop and stabling shed. In 1996 the old station building has been demolished. A new building with in it a selling point for tickets, a cafetaria, offices and appartments was built.

The stabling shed for rolling stock was enlarged to give place for the new double articulated trains.

The location of the halt has in that cas been taken to westernly direction.

Halt : Säglibachbrücke

Altitude : 910 m
Distance : 9,52 km

Hier is geen halte aanwezig

Remarks :
Just before the Säglibachbrücke in about 1970 a second shed was erected to stable a part of the rolling stock. The shed could be reached by a short pieceof track which branched from the line from the direction of Speicher. This extra place was needed to stable the extra coaches and motor coaches. There are three doors in the shed. In two of them there are tracks, the third could be used for other materials which were brought there by car.

Nowadays there is no more switch in the main line to reach the shed by train. For the rest the tracks are still in place. The building and place are now used for stabling materials for track building.
